Omaha has always felt like home away from home. Growing up, we spent countless holidays at my Poppa’s batch. Barefoot summers, beach days that blurred into each other, and the kind of memories that quietly shape who you are.
This piece was inspired by a walk through the bird sanctuary at the northern tip of Omaha. It’s a peaceful spot, tucked away from the crowds, where time seems to slow down. I was snapping photos, and this moment really stayed with me. The way the waves gently layered over each other, gliding in towards the shore.
With this work, I wanted to capture that calm, rhythmic energy. The essence of a place that holds so many personal memories, but also speaks to the wider beauty of Aotearoa’s coastline. It’s about connection to land, to memory & to the sea.
