This painting was sparked by a photo my close friend Joshua (Hua) sent after moving back to Christchurch. It showed sunlight streaming through trees, lighting up the canopy with gold and highlighting a burst of purple flowers. The image hit me deeply, unleashing a rush of creativity.
As I painted, it felt like a reunion, with nature and with Joshua. Each brushstroke reflected the anticipation of visiting him in spring, wandering the gardens together in search of that same golden light.
This piece holds that joy, our connection, and the vivid memory of a single, striking moment in nature.
